Using Business Index

Overview

The Overview screen reports indexed files, searchable passages, folders being scanned, and files needing attention. Recently indexed documents link to their source details.

Sources

Use Sources to:

  • add folders through the native folder picker;
  • pause or enable a watched folder;
  • request a rescan;
  • remove a folder and its indexed content;
  • see the last scan time and searchable-file count.

Business Index reads selected folders. It never edits the original documents.

Knowledge

Knowledge shows the Clients, Projects, Decisions, Commitments, Problems, and connections found in the selected files. Each item displays whether it is an observed source fact, a system inference, or user-confirmed knowledge, along with its review state and evidence count.

Use this screen to confirm or reject a proposed item, correct its label or meaning, merge duplicates, split an incorrectly combined concept, or mark obsolete knowledge. These actions append an audit event and preserve the earlier state.

Ask

Questions are answered from a hybrid of exact and semantic passages, governed business concepts, historical versions, and evidence-backed connections. Source markers such as [S1] connect claims to the source cards displayed beneath the answer. Each card identifies its result type and epistemic state.

The source list contains only sources cited by the answer. A nearby document returned during retrieval is not displayed unless the answer cites it. An unsupported answer therefore reports 0 sources.

Select a source card to inspect the extracted text and document timestamps. Opening the original file in its native application is not yet supported.

Clear or save a chat

Clear Chat removes the current chat history from the local database. Save Chat downloads a Markdown file containing the messages, timestamps, source count, and cited source paths. Exported timestamps use the browser's local time zone.

Models

The Models screen shows the current embedding and chat models, models already downloaded into Ollama, and profile controls.

Changing the chat model re-runs local business-concept extraction under the new recorded model. Changing the embedding model rebuilds derived chunk and object representations. Durable identities, versions, evidence, and feedback history remain intact.
